Route One Evaluation

Hello!

The intention of Route One Evaluation is to impact positive change through evaluation thinking and practice. It is a space for sharing my evaluation thinking and related resources…a space for getting your feedback on my thoughts and work.

About Me

I once had a dream that involved a conversation with Michael Scriven. He was concerned about the discipline of program evaluation and noted that a lot of evaluations are being done, but most of the people doing them don’t actually understand evaluation. He described it as a “wrinkle” in the field.

I often work with evaluation clients, students, training participants, and colleagues who have little or no formal training in program evaluation. I want them to understand evaluation—to smooth out the wrinkles. I want to promote the discipline and build evaluation capacity.

I’ve been program evaluating since 1994 and currently work as a Professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I’ve also worked as a program evaluator in non-profit and for-profit organizations. My publications and presentations focus on evaluation methods and include a book on evaluability assessment, co-authored with Mike Trevisan.

My educational background includes a Ph.D. in Research and Evaluation and a M.S. in Instructional Design and Development, both from Utah State University. My B.A. is in French, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and I started my professional life as a French teacher.

Thanks for stopping by!
